Annual Dinner 2013

It may only be February, but the Annual Dinner and Cabaret isn't too far off. With a star cabaret from Steve Evans, Brian Sefton, and Van Buren & Co, with music from Arthur Casson, the evening will be held on the 23^rd March at The Lord Knights Suite, Tally Ho Conference & Banqueting Centre, Pershore Road, Edgbaston, B5 7RN

Featuring amazing food, close-up magic at your table, and lots of competitions, raffles and prizes, the night also serves as the British Magical Society Awards Ceremony, so you know you'll be seeing some of the best magic we have to offer!

Congratulations Neil

Congratulations to our Acting Secretary (and Membership Secretary) Neil Roberts, who at the British Ring Convention in Great Yarmouth last week was voted in as President-Elect for 2012-2013, meaning Neil becomes British Ring President in September 2013 for the following year. His name will join a list containing such greats as Peter Warlock, Ali Bongo, and David Berglas. Well done the lad!

Diary date: Neil’s Presidential Dinner will be at the Arden Hotel, Birmingham on April 12 2014, where he hopes BMS members (you do not have to be a member of the I.B.M.) and families will support him. So start saving now!

Welcome Back

So the summer may be drawing to a close, but the good news is that meetings have started up again at the British Magical Society.

As well as various lectures and workshops, remember that the British Magical Society Close-up Competition 2012/13 is nearing (16^th Oct) and all it takes to win is an 8-12 minute close-up act. Could this year be your year?

Summer Break

So that's it at the BMS for the summer, but remember to come back in September, when we gets started again with some really great lectures.

First up will be Iain Moran on the 11^th September with his 'Greatest Hits' lecture.

We look forward to seeing you at the BMS, but meanwhile, have a great summer and enjoy the Olympics. Come on Team GB!!

BMS Summer Social 2012

This year's Summer Social takes place on the 24^th July, and once again, will take the form of a Beer and Skittles evening.

If you've already been to one of these events in the past, you know just how much fun they are. If, however, you haven't been to one before, don't worry. Beginner's luck plays such a big part in this game, if anything, you'll have an advantage!

The evening takes place on Saturday 24^th March 2012, with a Star Cabaret featuring Diamond & Jade, plus other magical entertainment (including close-up magic at your table) music, dancing and a tombola and raffle.

Berglas Award Nominations

It's that time again. The Berglas Award Nominations are now due!

For those of you that do not know, the BMS awards the Berglas Trophy each year to a living British magician for outstanding contribution to the art of magic. The Berglas Award can only be given to somebody who has not already received the title.

If you would like to put someone forward for this year's title, now is your chance. Nominations should be in writing, along with a brief note as to why you feel your nomination should receive the award, and sent to Paul Cadley by Tuesday 18^th October 2011.

BMS Summer Social 2011

Life's not all beer and skittles...but the British Magical Society Beer and Skittles Night is! With a buffet and cabaret entertainment included - even a competitive edge, with a skittles tournament (entry included in ticket price) - what more could you ask for?

The fun and games take place on the 26th July, and tickets are only £8 per person. At that price, you can bring as many friends and family members as you like - the more the merrier! So what are you waiting for?

The Christmas Party this year was extra special, as it featured designer cakes, crafted by artist and fellow member, Annabel de Vetten-Peterson. They honestly were as delicious as they were beautiful.
